So desperate was "The Angel" to make a move that he could not wait until after Durandt's involvement in another world title fight in the US on Saturday.
That is where Malcolm "The Stone" Klassen will defend the IBF junior lightweight belt against Robert "The Ghost" Guerrero.
"I thought about it last week," he said yesterday.
"My plan was to wait for Malcolm Klassen to defend his IBF title and break the news to Nick. So, ja, I am back with Manny (Fernandez)."
Hlatshwayo is visiting his ailing mother, Sheweta Mkhatshwa, at home in Giyani.
He won the IBF belt under Durandt in the US last month. Hlatshwayo said he had fulfilled his aims under Durandt, whom he joined in 2007 after parting ways with Fernandez, who had been his mentor since 1999.
Hlatshwayo defended the IBO welterweight strap three times under Durandt.
Promoter Branco Milenkovic, who has a three-year contract with Hlatshwayo, said he does not influence boxers when it comes to making decisions about their trainers.
"My job is to promote to the best of my ability," said Milenkovic, who voiced his displeasure at Hlatshwayo's timing. "I am worried about Malcolm because Nick might be upset and that could affect him before Klassen's fight."
Fernandez said he would sit down with Milenkovic and plan Hlatshwayo's future: "We just need to plan properly for what is best for Isaac, not me or the promoter. I'm glad Isaac is back.
"Now is the time to go back where it all started. I have always been in contact with Manny. There was no enmity between us," said Hlatshwayo, who poured cold water on allegations that Fernandez trained him on the side for the IBF title fight with Delvin Rodriguez.
"He gave me some advice, that is all," said Hlatshwayo, who won the SA, IBO lightweight and welterweight belts under Fernandez.
