NEWLY signed Orlando Pirates midfielder Gert Schalkwyk was caught dribbling his way recklessly through the N12 road in Westonaria on the West Rand at the weekend.

The 27-year-old was caught doing 198km in a 100km zone in his red VW Golf GTI.

Police spokesperson Constable Linkie Lefakane said Schalkwyk was arrested just after 4pm on Saturday.

"He was stopped by traffic officers who noticed that he was driving at a high speed. He was not drunk, and a blood test was not even done," Lefakane said.

"He was released on R1000 bail about an hour later. He has been charged with reckless driving and exceeding the speed limit."

Lefakane said Schalkwyk was expected to appear in the Westonaria magistrate's court tomorrow

The country's highest speed, 257km, was recorded by YFM breakfast show host DJ Sbu in 2007.

He was travelling on the N1 highway near the Grasmere tollgate, south of Johannesburg, in the 120km zone.

The presenter, whose real name is Sbusiso Leope, was driving a sponsored Audi TT.

He pleaded guilty and was subsequently fined R7000.
