SHARKS coach John Plumtree is still a disappointed man despite his charges registering a 30-19 victory over the Lions in an Absa Currie Cup game at Ellis Park Stadium on Saturday.
The defending champions' coach yesterday insisted that his boys should have buried the erratic Lions under an avalanche of tries had they kept their consistency in the second half.
"After our excellent opening and scoring 27 points with no response from the Lions we removed the foot from the pedal in the second half, we relaxed," Plumtree said.
The Lions' third defeat proves that coach Hans Coetzee still has a mammoth task to get the team to play to it's true potential and arrest the spate of defeats.
"We did not play according to rugby basics and our poor finishing in front of the posts is also a cause for concern," Coetzee said.
"But there is still room for improvement," added Coetzee, whose side faces the resurgent Western Province at Newlands on Saturday.
The past weekend's results had no impact on the league table standings after six rounds.
The Griquas, who suffered their first defeat of the season to the Bulls (25-24) in Kimberley, still lead the pack with 24 points while the latter maintained their fourth position with 19 points.
The Sharks kept their second spot with 22 points while the Western Province remain fourth after hammering the Boland 38-7.
