ART in its diversity from all over the world is what will be on offer at the Capital Arts Festival.
The event runs from August 28 until September 6 at the State Theatre in Pretoria.
There will be dance, theatre, music, exhibitions and poetry in abundance when Brazil, Indonesia, Pakistan, Germany, Russia, Argentina, US and France gather to celebrate the arts.
Other countries that will also take part include Spain, Australia, Thailand and Reunion.
State Theatre chief executive Xoliswa Nduneni-Ngema said this year's line-up would offer art in all its various forms.
"We are thrilled to be able to deliver such an exciting programme for the citizens of Tshwane.
"We aim to make the festival extremely inclusive. There's literally something for everyone, regardless of their preference," she said..
"I am confident that people from around Tshwane will fall in love with the delightful bouquet of art which we have put together especially for them."
The best part is that entrance is free everyday between 11.15am and 5pm. Food and drinks will be on sale.
Performances include Franz Kafka's A Report to an Academy. It stars Sello Maake ka Ncube. Also on the theatrical front will be First Traveler, a musical directed by Mooky Mabala and Godfrey Thobejane.
"American artist Will Power will inject urban energy and flavour into the festival with his hip-hop solo show, Flow. It will be brought to the festival in partnership with the US embassy," Ngema said.
A Spanish three-piece jazz band, Summra, which fuses pop, folk and rock, is expected to deliver a "daring, fresh and innovative sound", said an excited Ngema.
The Other Pakistan, a documentary that explores a country that is often misunderstood, will showcase the rich cultural heritage and breathtaking beauty of Pakistan.
"A youth orchestra from Germany will provide sounds with a European flavour. Their programme will be complemented by the Black Tie Ensemble and soprano Susanna Moncayo from Argentina. Pianist Silvia Dabul will also be featured in the programme."
The world-renowned State Kuban Cossack Dance Company is expected to titillate audiences with their vivid and colourful spectacle of song and dance.
Theatre Taliipot from Reunion with bring a feel of the tropics by the acclaimed Ma Ravan.
South African musician Vusi Mahlasela will offer a special performance to highlight 100 years of South African music.
The performance will be completed by Charlie Valow, an Austrian jazz singer who grew up in Tshwane.
Her classical jazz music is infused with Afro-jazz sounds and the best of traditional instruments.
