Cheetahs outsmart Leopards

The visitors from Bloemfontein scored 11 tries in their 71-17 romp against Leopards in Potchefstroom on Friday night.

Cheetahs were 38-3 up at half-time but lost momentum in the second stanza to allow Leopards to stage a mini-fight back.

Fullback Russell Jeacocks scored two tries, but it was little consolation as the visitors outplayed them.

When Leopards lost scrumhalf Theo van Wyk to a yellow card, Cheetahs coach Naka Drotské ordered three tries from his troops and they obliged. The score escalated from 17-0 to 38-0 within 10 minutes - the visitors were scoring more than a point a minute.

The Cheetahs ran the ball at will and created space for speedsters Jongi Nokwe and Danwell Demas.

The Cheetahs would probably like to take that left-hand corner of Olën Park where they ran in four of their first five tries back to Bloemfontein.

Scorers: Cheetahs: Tries: Danwell Demas (2), JW Jonker (2), Jongi Nokwe (2), Nico Breedt (2), Robert Ebersohn, JP Joubert, Johan Wessels. Conversions: Jacques-Louis Potgieter (5), Louis Strydom (3).

Leopards: Tries: Russell Jeacocks (2). Conversions: Clayton Durand (2). Penalty: Durand.

* The Cheetahs Under-21 side laid the table for their big brothers with a 67-8 victory over their Leopards counterparts. - Sapa
