A LOT has been said about the virtues of delayed gratification. According to this theory, it is always better to wait for what one really needs instead of rushing to acquire it even when conditions do not allow.

A LOT has been said about the virtues of delayed gratification. According to this theory, it is always better to wait for what one really needs instead of rushing to acquire it even when conditions do not allow.

Bafana Bafana and the SABC seem to be sold on this virtue.

By deciding to show the match "delayed live", the powers that be at Auckland Park thought it wise to delay the gratification of not watching our national team losing to Serbia at home.

As it turned out, the delay in televising the match must have saved a whole lot of fans the pain of yet again seeing the senior national team fail to live up to expectations, a mere 10 months before the start of the World Cup.

We can only hope that Bafana are also delaying the gratification of seeing them performing decently. We cannot afford to be the first host nation to fail to make the second round of the Fifa World Cup.
