GAUTENG Promoters' Association has called on boxing stakeholders in in the province to a meeting about the document that they received from Dumile Mateza and Mesuli Zifo last month.

Mateza, a rugby and boxing commentator, and Zifo, a former top boxing writer for the Daily Dispatch in East London, were appointed by Sports Minister Makhenkesi Stofile on June 18 to find ways to turn boxing around for the better.

Hope, who serves the GPA as secretary, said yesterday that the duo told them in their meeting that they were doing just what Stofile mandated them to do - solicit views from stakeholders to find out how can boxing be structured once and for all so that it becomes a viable organisation.

"We cannot have an input until we consult our members," Hope said. "A meeting will take place at Nasrec Auditorium on Sunday at 10am."

Hope, who co-promotes with Reggie Hilman, hinted that the suggested privatisation of boxing could be dsicussed.
