Gift of a house sealed with kiss

HUNDREDS of people watched in disbelief as a 76-year-old Limpopo man kissed MEC for local government and housing Soviet Lekganyane like an adolescent young girl who has just got a date with a celebrity.

HUNDREDS of people watched in disbelief as a 76-year-old Limpopo man kissed MEC for local government and housing Soviet Lekganyane like an adolescent young girl who has just got a date with a celebrity.

After the kissing act, the old man, Daniel Monyamane, jumped with jubilation to whatever fate had brought Lekganyane to his house.

This took place on Tuesday afternoon in Mohlonong village in the Mashashane area of the Aganang municipality in Limpopo.

Monyamane danced and sang, while calling the MEC "the Messiah".

This was after the MEC had handed over keys to Monyamane for his new four-roomed house fitted with new furniture, kitchen unit and sewerage devices.

The house took only three weeks to build.

Monyamane had lived in a shack for the past 27 years with his wife until she died a few years ago.

"This is the best present I ever received , " he said .

Monyamane applied for an RDP house in 1998 but each time the allocation was made he was allegedly sent from pillar to post.

His many years of agony were noticed by the constituency office of the ANC.

His plight was then raised with the research unit of the ANC's chief whip, who briefed the Aganang municipality for it to intervene.

"With the help of the department, we managed to soft-talk local business people who opened their hearts and their wallets to help change the life of the poor man ," said Aganang municipality mayor Manoko Masegela during the handing over ceremony .
