Man shoots two women after rape accusation

POLICE are still baffled by the double tragedy that struck the impoverished Esigodini village in Pietermaritzburg on Monday night.

POLICE are still baffled by the double tragedy that struck the impoverished Esigodini village in Pietermaritzburg on Monday night.

The police said Zinhle Dlamini, 19, was allegedly shot and killed by her boyfriend, Aubrey Nxele, who turned gun on himself.

This was shortly after Nxele had fired on her and another woman, Thokozani Dlamini.

Dlamini is fighting for her life in a local hospital.

It's believed that Zinhle had opened a rape case against Nxele on the day of the murder.

She alleged that he had raped their two-year-old daughter in April during a visit.

Soon afterwards Nxele shot Zinhle and Dlamini and then committed suicide at a house in the rural area.

Police spokesperson Henry Budhram said the police found two the women shot dead when they arrived in the area.

"One was lying inside the house and the other at the rear of the house, he said.

Zinhle was declared dead on the scene, while Thokozani was taken to hospital in a serious condition," he said.

Budhram said the police later found Nxele's body lying near the house with a gunshot wound to the head.

"The circumstances surrounding the incidents are being investigated.

A 9 mm pistol was found on the scene. Investigations established that Nxele and Zinhle had a two-year-old child."

Meanwhile, a woman was repeatedly raped by three men in Mpumelelo township in Thornville.

It's alleged that the woman was walking with her boyfriend to their home after visiting a friend.

The pair was approached by three unknown men, one of whom produced a firearm and demanded cash and cellphones.

Budhrum said the men allegedly grabbed the boyfriend and searched him, removing his cellphone.

The boyfriend managed to free himself and ran to neighbouring houses.

The suspects forced the woman to take them to her home.

Two of the suspects ransacked the house while the third dragged the victim into a nearby bush, where she was raped," Budhrum said.
