HARARE - Doctors at Zimbabwe's state hospitals went on strike yesterday, demanding higher salaries and a review of their monthly allowances, their union said.

"Doctors at all government-run hospitals in the country are on strike," Brighton Chizhanje, president of the Hospital Doctors Association, told AFP.

He said doctors did not report for duty. It was unclear how long the strike would last as the union was in discussions with the ministry. Many doctors and nurses in Zimbabwe have emigrated in search of a better life. - Sapa-AFP
