Stay clear of BRT lanes

THE City of Johannesburg has warned motorists who have been illegally driving on the lanes dedicated to the Rea Vaya Bus Rapid Transit system that they would face the music.

THE City of Johannesburg has warned motorists who have been illegally driving on the lanes dedicated to the Rea Vaya Bus Rapid Transit system that they would face the music.

The council's executive director of transport Lisa Seftel said yesterday that transgressors would face the might of the law - starting from tomorrow .

Motorists, mainly taxi drivers, have been beating peak-hour traffic by illegally driving on the BRT lanes that stretch from Regina Mundi in Soweto to Ellis Park Stadium.

Metro police spokesperson Inspector Edna Mamonyane said: "We will impound those vehicles and issue R400 fines. "
