TWO of Oprah's brightest girl leaders returned home last night from representing South Africa at an international young women's event in Boston, US.

Debra Dlamini and Marwiya Fox of the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy landed at OR Tambo airport yesterday after attending the Women2Women - America 2009 International Leadership Conference from August 1 to August 8 .

They were two of 88 girls from 44 countries from all continents who attended. Egypt, Sudan, Uganda and Morocco were the other African countries represented.

"We had to write an essay about women issues in South Africa. I was ecstatic when I was told that my essay was chosen," said 16-year-old Debra.

She wrote about teen pregnancy, gender inequality and domestic violence.

They both agreed that meeting rapper Jay-Z, real name Shawn Carter, and watching the musical Wicked on Broadway were the highlights of their trip.
