Nehawu complaints to be probed

COMPLAINTS by the National Education, Health and Allied Workers Union over alleged corruption and maladministration in the KwaZulu-Natal department of community safety and liaison will be "given urgent attention", MEC Willies Mchunu said yesterday.

COMPLAINTS by the National Education, Health and Allied Workers Union over alleged corruption and maladministration in the KwaZulu-Natal department of community safety and liaison will be "given urgent attention", MEC Willies Mchunu said yesterday.

Nehawu members have allegedly been at loggerheads with the department for several months now.

They have held lunch time pickets calling for departmental head Yasmin Bacus to resign because of "her apparent inability to address or launch an investigation into the alleged corrupt activities".

The union has also accused Bacus of being a "racist".

Mchunu said he had instituted an independent probe to look into the workers' grievances. - Mhlaba Memela
