KWAZULU-NATAL MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison Willies Mchunu has condemned the high number of deaths on the province's roads during the long weekend.

Seven people died and 17 were critically injured with another 34 slightly injured in separate road crashes.

Mchunu said it was important for all road users to stick to the rules.

Yesterday paramedics rushed to the scene of an accident at Booth Road outside Durban where two motor vehicles had collided leaving five children between the ages of 6 and 8 injured.

Netcare spokesperson Chris Botha said: "Two victims suffered serious injuries and three others minor injuries. They were treated on the scene and taken to Netcare St Augustine's hospital for further treatment." - Mary Papayya
