High Performance squad to face France, Argentina

SOUTH African Rugby Union announced the SA Under-18 High Performance squad yesterday that will play two international friendlies against France and Argentina this month.

SOUTH African Rugby Union announced the SA Under-18 High Performance squad yesterday that will play two international friendlies against France and Argentina this month.

Saru media officer Yusuf Jackson said the juniors will play France at Wellington in Western Cape on August 22 and Argentina at George on August 26.

They will face France again in the last international friendly at Wellington on August 29.

Jackson said the core of the team consists of 14 players who did duty for the country in the national schools squad international against Italy and an England Invitation side last month.

They beat Italy 86-23 but lost 45-13 to England.

"Basically, the union's aim is to expose our juniors to the international level and hope they will seize this opportunity with both hands," Jackson said.

Herman Masimla, SA Rugby High Performance manager, said: "While all our efforts will go into monitoring the development of these players, it is also important that the various unions take an active role in the development of these future stars."
