Tabane to take BMF to Africa

THE Black Management Forum (BMF) has appointed a new managing director with a strong vision to take the forum to the rest of Africa and to ensure that it moves faster in seeing blacks in higher positions.

Gaba Tabane replaces Mncane Mthunzi has taken up the position of chief executive of the Consumer Goods Council of South Africa.

Tabane is no stranger to BMF and was among the students who founded the student chapter of the forum.

His understanding of and deeper appreciation for what the student chapter intended to do was recognised when he was given the coveted Outstanding Student Leader of the Year in 1994 award while studying at the University of North West.

His high standard of leadership style led to his being recognised as 2008 Manager of the Year by BMF.

BMF has done well in creating its footprints for black professionals. It has also been central to and vocal on issues of transformation.

"I want to defend the gains of BMF and to make sure that what we have achieved as an organisation in the past is implemented," Tabane said.

His vision is to internationalise BMF so that it does not only tackle issues facing South Africa but issues facing the African continent.

"My vision is to take BMF to other parts of the continent, such as Zimbabwe, Botswana, Angola, and Mozambique. to work with our counterparts there," Tabane said.
