SACKED national prosecuting authority head Vusi Pikoli has filed an urgent application in the North Gauteng high court to prevent President Jacob Zuma appointing a new national director of public prosecutions.

SACKED national prosecuting authority head Vusi Pikoli has filed an urgent application in the North Gauteng high court to prevent President Jacob Zuma appointing a new national director of public prosecutions.

Zuma told Pikoli on July 15 that his permanent successor would be appointed although Pikoli was challenging his dismissal in court.

In his affidavit filed at the court, Pikoli said the appointment of a new head would have adverse consequences for the person appointed and for the public interest.

Former president Kgalema Motlanthe fired Pikoli in September last year.
