PARIS - World champions Italy slid to fifth in the Fifa world rankings released yesterday, with Brazil holding top spot ahead of Spain and the Netherlands respectively.

Brazil won the recent Fifa Confederations Cup in South Africa.

Italy's fall follows their elimination from the Confederations Cup won by Brazil, with Germany moving up to fourth.

Bafana dropped two places from 70th spot to 72 .
