I CAN'T help suspecting that the recent spate of strikes and delivery protests are the people's way of demanding payback from the ANC for voting it back into power.
I think now that people have voted overwhelmingly for the ANC they are expecting it to return the favour.
I believe strikes and protests are an integral part of a healthy democracy, but all I'm saying is that you can't vote for a government and then expect it to deliver everything within three months.
President Jacob Zuma's government is doing whatever it takes, in the face of a global recession, to meet the expectations and needs of the previously disadvantaged majority.
The DA, on the other hand, is suggesting that Zuma should go back to the people and tell them that the government cannot deliver on its election promises, which is utter nonsense.
The government can still deliver on its promises. The DA is only trying to depict our government as another "black failure" to score cheap political points in the process.
While I believe in people's right to protest, I also believe that the taxpaying public should receive proper and quality service from all public institutions.
Our government institutions are a cesspool of corruption and laziness and are in dire need of a clean-up.
Lastly, acts of vandalism perpetrated by striking union members cannot be tolerated. It shows a lack of maturity on the part of protesters.
Non-performance of duties carries enough weight in any strike action, so the destruction of our towns and cities is simply uncalled for.
