TELEVISION actress and maskandi singer Zandile Zungu, who has just launched a solo album, brings a ton of impressive credentials to the maskandi stable.

Born in Hammarsdale in KwaZulu-Natal, Zungu is a dancer, singer, actor and composer.

Her whose musical , Her expertise intellect when it comes to music is very evident in her latest solo project, Ayihlome Ihlasele.

There is absolutely no doubt that this album will elevate Zungu to great heights in this dog-eat-dog industry .

Ayihlome Ihlasele is refreshing maskandi music influenced by traditional sounds such as ushameni, isikhomazi, isibhaca and umzansi.

The songs in the album tackle a host of issues that affect women.

Zungu says that when she composes, she looks at her own situation, especially when it involves relationships.

"Whenever there is a problem in a relationship, the women are always blamed. My songs tell people to stop pointing fingers at women when things go wrong," says Zungu.

"I hate it that women are always victims in such situations."

In the album, she performs with Sindi Dlathu of Muvhango and Skhumbuzo Mabizela.

Zungu is also a wardrobe specialist for television .

"I have worked on Muvhangofor two years as a wardrobe assistant."

She played Thuleleni, Catherine's maid, in the popular television drama.

Zungu is busy with industrial theatre, in which she promotes various brands.

Though she has just recorded her debut album, Zungu has been singing maskandi for a long time. In fact, she has been singing since 1993.

When she first came to Johannesburg, Zungu joined Duma Ndlovu's traditional group called Intando Yeningi. The group. which does both traditional dance and theatre, has released two albums.

Zungu says she decided to pursue maskandi music because she grew up singing it.
