This follows the discovery of the body of a man next to a rubbish dump in Sandalwood Road yesterday morning.
Captain Vincent Pandarum said the body was found by a municipal employee.
"An Umdoni municipality employee was raking up trash near the Sanathan informal settlement when he made the gruesome find," he said.
"Suddenly, a human hand emerged from the refuse he was gathering to throw into the container ...."
He said the employee stopped a passing motorist who confirmed that there was a body that had been concealed in the refuse.
"At first it was difficult to distinguish the gender since the body was covered in blood and grime, but it was later established that it was that of a male," said Pandarum.
