Semenya won the 1500m in unpleasant, windy conditions with an impressive career best of 4min:08,01sec. It was 8,42 seconds faster than her previous best.
In a major upset, the 18-year-old Tuks athlete defeated the young Ethiopian, Kalkidan Gezahegne, 18, who had been competing in recent major European meetings and boasts a best of 4:02,98.
Gezahegne won the silver medal at the 2008 IAAF World Junior Championship and is the fastest junior in the world.
Semenya is now the second fastest junior of the year, and second behind Zola Budd on the South African all-time junior women's list. Her time is also better than the IAAF B qualification for the World Championships.
Semenya and hurdler Cornel Fredericks both won two gold medals at this meeting. Fredericks added the 110m hurdles gold to his 400m hurdles victory.
