Gauteng East stun Province in netball tourney

A YOUTHFUL and inexperienced Gauteng East gave notice that they are a team to watch when they comfortably beat Western Province 41-23 on the opening day of the Spar National Netball Championships at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University in Port Elizabeth yesterday.

Griqualand West also caused something of an upset, with a narrow 52-51 win over the more favoured Free State in the first match of the day.

However, they were unable to repeat their giant-killing performance later in the day, going down 55-33 to Gauteng North, last year's runners-up.
