W ife 'SHOT making love'

A 40-YEAR-OLD man has been arrested for allegedly shooting his 35-year-old wife to death.

A 40-YEAR-OLD man has been arrested for allegedly shooting his 35-year-old wife to death.

Police said the man had earlier claimed that the incident on Friday at Dumasi village near Thohoyandou was an accident.

But the man's statement was not convincing enough and police suspected he might have pulled the trigger and killed his wife intentionally.

The man told police that his wife was killed when the gun accidentally went off while they were making love. He said the gun was under the pillow.

Thohoyandou police spokesperson Captain Mashudu Malelo said the suspect's arrest came after they found his statement contradictory when they went to the crime scene.

Police subsequently felt he had lied to them because it was "impossible for the gun to release the bullet under those circumstances".

"It is unbelievable that a gun can go off while people are making love," said Malelo.

He said they believed the couple had "had differences", leading to the man killing his wife.

"We are going to go deeper in our investigations to ensure that we uncover the real truth. We believe the man is not telling the whole truth," Malelo said.

The man is expected to appear in the Thohoyandou magistrate's court today.
