LONDON - The majority of European-based South African players saw game time as their clubs winded off their pre-season programmes at the weekend.

The Bafana Bafana captain Aaron "Mbazo" Mokoena made his Portsmouth debut in the City of Guimaraes Trophy match against Benfica in Portugal on Saturday evening in the second half.

Quinton Fortune, who is on trial at Doncaster Rovers, faced South African-born Wolves winger Andy Surman in the Mickey Walker Testimonial in Doncaster also on Saturday.

Blackburn Rovers' forward Benni McCarthy saw action as manager Sam Allardyce introduced him in the 46th minute in a two-all drawn match away to Sheffiled Wednesday.
