THE building of houses to prospective homeowners in a multimillion-rand housing project in Limpopo has been put on hold.

The project at Mooiplaas, outside Modjadjiskloof, has been delayed until September because of continuing disputes over the land.

The Seshoeni community has claimed that the land belongs to them.

The directors of Citi Blox Property Development and Investors said they were forced to put the project on hold after some people occupied the land.

Managing director Choy Schoeman said the building of 3000 houses for middle-income families had been delayed and the land problem had resulted in many clients cancelling their housing applications.

Seshoeni community spokesperson Molatelo Raophala said the land belonged to them and they would not allow anyone to build on it.

The company bought the land from Simunye Housing Development, who had bought it from the Greater Letaba municipality.

Another group calling themselves the "Sihlalangenkani community" demarcated stands, claiming the land belongs to them.
