HE HAS caused a brouhaha over his flashy lifestyle and fashion sense. Bheki Cele, our new top guy in blue, is no ordinary politician.

He goes partying until the wee hours of the morning, and mingles with and shares dance floors with the young and reckless.

His penchant for flashy clothes and accessories has attracted admirers and puritanical detractors alike, and critics have even dismissed him as a fashionista.

But this didn't seem to faze him one bit because he would show up at an accident scene garbed in the brightest of jewel tones and say the most bizarre things that would get people talking the whole week.

Now the natty dresser has to trade his bling for the boring blue uniform. This will no doubt deal the fashion industry a heavy blow.

Can you imagine Cele, who is also popular for his refined dance moves, doing his Sika lekeke garbed in that unflattering police cap instead of his cowboy hat?

As much as he shows enthusiasm for his new job, I bet he will miss his flashy lifestyle and the celebrity parties he has been associated with.

Who can forget the spectacle of him rocking up at this year's Sama awards blinged out, shaming celebs and triggering the rumour mill that he was going to be appointed minister of arts and culture.

With his new appointment one wonders if he will resist the temptation of rocking up at a celeb party in his uniform.
