DEPARTMENT of Labour inspectors have ordered the demolition of the Giyani Spar supermarket following allegations that it did not comply with health and safety laws .

The building caught fire this week, prompting labour inspectors to launch an investigation.

The probe was on compliance with electrical installations and supply, flammable gases including diesel pipes and gas cylinders.

Preliminary investigations have found that parts of the remaining walls were damaged.

Inspectors have ordered the demolition of the remaining brick walls to avoid any possible injuries.

Department spokesperson Joe Maila said yesterday they were satisfied that precautionary measures had been put in place.
