THE musical Happiness through the Mist, Imbumba Production's mini-musical for scholars to learn about our past, follows its Playhouse Loft triumph in May this year with a short season at the Catalina Theatre on Durban's Wilson's Wharf from August 18 to 23.
Written and directed by Zeph Nzama and starring Thabane Mahlobo, S'celo Ngcobo and Muzi Mhlango, with Madala Kunene on guitar, the musical depicts the colourful life of Durban's historic Umkhumbane in the 1950s.
A compelling mixture of infectious music, wry humour and dialogue, the show celebrates the extraordinary cultural heritage of Durban's historic Umkhumbane District - Durban's equivalent of Johannesburg's legendary Sophiatown and Cape Town's former District Six.
Umkhumbane, evacuated and flattened during the apartheid era and renamed Cato Manor, was the birth place of many legendary South African artists.
"We want to encourage our brothers and sisters from all race groups to share something of our past with us, so that we can find a common bond for the future," said Nzama.
Schools are advised to book early to avoid disappointment.
