Ndlovu held for beating up girlfriend

SOCCER star Peter Ndlovu was arrested this week for allegedly assaulting his pregnant girlfriend.

SOCCER star Peter Ndlovu was arrested this week for allegedly assaulting his pregnant girlfriend.

Pinky Duda, 30, opened an assault case on Friday against the former Mamelodi Sunowns and Thanda Royal Zulu striker.

Ndlovu, pictured, who lives with Duda in a townhouse in Lyndhurst, Johennesburg, handed himself to the police on Monday.

Duda said in her statement that the two had squabbled because one of Ndlovu's girlfriends had kept on phoning, although she had insisted their relationship was over.

"We argued and I pushed him. He then started to punch me in my face with fists.

"I sustained injuries on my left hand and bruises on my face," she said.

Duda said Ndlovu went outside and returned with a car jack and started smashing windows in the house.

"He was assaulting me in front of my three-year-old son," she claimed.

Ndlovu, who once played for English clubs Coventry City, Birmingham, Huddersfield and Sheffield United, appeared in the Hillbrow magistrates' court yesterday, where Duda withdrew the case.

She told prosecutors that she had decided to drop the charges after a meeting between their families.

The Zimbabwean star is no stranger to scandals involving women, a string of whom have lined up to claim maintenance from him.

In 2004 a magistrate ordered him to pay R1900 a month in maintenance after he fathered a child to Alice Thabulo.

In February last year Ntswaki Khathong claimed she miscarried Ndlovu's baby after discovering that he was married to singer Sharon Dee.

The singer demanded R36000 a month from him, R13000 for each of their two children and R10000 for herself.
