Mkatshwa was given the gift of a R10000 makeover by her daughter Mary-Kate, who won the prize at Sowetan's Women's Club.
Kamo Hlalele, Revlon's project manager, was the first of many friendly faces that Mkatshwa, 52, saw as she started her special day. Hlalele met Mkatshwa in a limousine at her home in Tembisa, Gauteng, and they drove to Joburg's Sandton City shopping centre.
They were met by image consultant Doris Msibi, who could not wait to get Mkatshwa into the clothing shops.
"I would not normally have chosen the styles and shades that Doris selected for me. I like plain stuff and I do not wear too many colours," said Mkatshwa.
Then it was time to head to the hairdressers where Mkatshwa's out-dated wig was replaced by an elegantly styled one, perfectly suiting the shape of her face.
Make-up artist Mpumi Dhlodlo then applied the finishing touches before Mkatshwa changed into her new outfit.
"I don't wear make-up and I was surprised when Mary-Kate gave me the makeover, but I am pleased with the way I look," Mkatshwa said.
"I am so happy. I look stunning. I feel really beautiful."
Mkatshwa works as a secretary-cum-office administrator for her husband's business. She believes that her husband and daughter will really enjoy her new image, which she has promised to try and maintain.
