THOKOZA residents picked up from where they left off last week.

After the violent protest last Tuesday Mpilisweni informal settlement residents again took to the streets yesterday.

This time they carried sticks and and knobkerries to show.

They had nasty confrontations with the police, who fired rubber bullets to disperse the crowds.

Khumalo Street, Thokoza's main road. was blocked with bricks, logs and large rocks and some cars were stoned.

A community leader, Sipho Duma said yesterday's protest were the result of there having been no communication from the municipality, despite Ekurhuleni mayor Ntombi Mekgwe telling reporters on Monday that the council was in discussions with the community.
