Gallagher Convention Centre in Midrand, Gauteng, will once again be the playground for trendsetters.

The theme "The New Fusion" is about combining bold contemporary, urban-style pieces with heirloom lace; merging quirky green products and handmade or home-grown pieces with antiques and to have investment pieces meet up with revived finds from the attic or a jumble sale.

Now in its 16th year, Decorex gives a platform to trade professionals and consumers to indulge in haute and handmade.

The event is on from 6 to 10 August and it alsofeatures a host of green solutions.

Zero in on waste

Zero waste is a "living green" goal, a way of thinking that profoundly changes our approach to resources and production. It requires preventing rather than managing waste.

Stay warm. Remember to close the doors of heated rooms to ensure that the heat stays inside. Opt for cuddling up in a warm blanket rather than using a heater to save money and electricity.

Don't waste water. Aerated faucet taps and low-flow shower heads help to save water. By harvesting rain water, watering your lawn early in the morning or at night, taking shorter showers and planting indigenous and drought-tolerant plants, you can save lots of water.

You can also use permeable paving and re-use "grey water" from baths, washing machines and other safe sources to water your garden.
