HARARE - Zimbabwe human rights activist Jestina Mukoko, who was abducted by agents of President Robert Mugabe's government, is suing the state for over R1,6million for mistreatment in detention.

Mukoko, head of the Zimbabwe Peace Project, was abducted from her home and held for three weeks, provoking an international outcry.

She was eventually brought to court and charged with plotting to topple Mugabe's government. But the charges were widely condemnedas an attempt to stifle criticism of Mugabe. - Sapa-DPA
