SOBAHLE Mkhabase, the young actress who stars in iZulu Lami, (My Secret Sky), is determined to continue with her acting career.

The audience that attended the local launch of the film this week were hugely impressed by the 11-year-old's acting talent.

The film was shown locally for the first time - at the Durban International Film Festival, which ends on August 2 - after she scooped the best actress award in Spain's Tarifa Festival earlier this year.

It was given to her for her portrayal of an orphan who survives the odds.

Sobahle, from Hammarsdale near Durban, was one of 3000 children who auditioned for the the lead.

"The film has changed my life . it's now up to me to continue and I know that I am going to make it big," was Sobahle's proud boast.

Her mother, Senzi Mkhabase, was almost in tears after seeing the film for the first time and so were many others in the highly appreciative audience.

"I used to think it was just a film with a bunch of children with horrible acting skills," Mkhabase said.

"My little daughter never acted before, so what I saw today was truly amazing."

The heart-stirring film, directed by Madoda Ncayiyana, will hit local cinemas next month.
