PASSENGERS yesterday set fire to five coaches of Shosholoza Meyl, the long-distance rail service.

PASSENGERS yesterday set fire to five coaches of Shosholoza Meyl, the long-distance rail service.

Shosholoza Meyl's acting chief executive Viwe Mlenzana said the train - from Bloemfontein to Johannesburg - was set alight at Virginia - in the Free State after the locomotive broke down. "The passengers became angry and threatened employees on board. The damage to the train is estimated at R9million."

A board of inquiry had been set up to investigate the arson attack. - Sapa
