Top women to be honoured

TO commemorate Women's Month KwaZulu-Natal women movers and shakers in fields varying from, from politics to sport, will be honoured at a gala dinner August 16.

Dubbed Woman the Brand 2009, the event will take place at Sibaya Casino, in Durban.

Guest speakers include first lady Nompumelelo MaNtuli Zuma and businesswoman Basetsana Kumalo.

Among the entertainers are Yvonne Chaka Chaka, poet Gcina Mhlophe and comedian Sfiso Nene.

"We want to pay tribute to those women born and bred in the province," said event organiser Zama Ngcobo.

This year's event honours local women who have made their mark in television, journalism, music, politics, fashion, finance, business, media, radio and sports.

Sowetan's KwaZulu-Natal bureau chief Mary Papayya is being honoured for her contribution to journalism, while businesswoman Judy Dlamini will be honoured in the business category and Baleka Mbete for her role in politics.
