THE Springbok Sevens team will take part in the 2010 Commonwealth Games billed for Delhi, India, from October 5 to 6 next year.

This was disclosed to Sowetan yesterday by coach Paul Treu after the young Boks collected a bronze medal at the World Games in Kaohsiung City, Taiwan, at the weekend.

They trounced Argentina 17-0 in a one-sided third-place playoff in their first appearance in the World Games.

Fiji were crowned the champions after their 43-10 win over Portugal in the final.

Treu was over the moon following his boys' magnificent performance throughout the tournament against the world-class opponents.

"We performed extremely well under tough circumstances and everyone was up to the task," he said.

"We really wanted to win our first gold medal but we are encouraged by the bronze considering that it was our first appearance in the World Games."

The Boks were beaten 21-7 by Fiji in the semifinal.

Treu said they used the tournament as part of their preparations for the International Rugby Board Sevens World Series and the Commonwealth Games in 2010. The team is expected back home today.
