ANC meeting nearly ends in fist fight

THE much-anticipated ANC Elijah Malatji branch meeting in GaMatipane village, near Tzaneen, was called off because members argued over who should stand for the position of secretary.

THE much-anticipated ANC Elijah Malatji branch meeting in GaMatipane village, near Tzaneen, was called off because members argued over who should stand for the position of secretary.

The meeting was held at the Masopha High School in GaMatipane village in Greater Tzaneen on Sunday.

The meeting was called to elect a branch secretary after the untimely death of Molate Machethe last year.

Chaos broke out when acting secretary Sophie Molewa and a member of the current branch executive, Jonathan Moropene, traded harsh words because they both wanted to stand for the position.

An ANC member who did not want to reveal his name said "the meeting was postponed until further notice to prevent members from coming to blows because emotions were running so high".

It is also alleged that the branch executive committee was completely divided when it came to dealing with allegations of misconduct levelled at ANCYL branch secretary Tsietsi Manyama, who is accused of being "selfish".

Members claim Manyama had received information on empowerment programmes but failed to share it with fellow ANCYL members.
