The clubs are also using the tournaments to parade new players.

Yesterday there were a number of exciting matches across the country.

In Tswhane, SuperSport United beat Mamelodi Sundowns 4-2 on penalties at Atteridgeville Stadium in a match that was part of Nelson Mandela's birthday celebrations. Mandela celebrated his 91st birthday on July 18.

Both sides finished the match with a goal apiece. United's goal in regulation time was scored by Glen Salmon and former Bay United midfielder Gareth Ncaca struck for the Brazilians.

Elsewhere, Bloemfontein Celtic lifted the Old Mutual Mangaung tournament at Botshabelo Stadium, beating a determined Mpumalanga Black Aces 3-2 in the final.

Petrus Mahlatsi broke the deadlock in the 10th minute, before Chibuzor Noogbo equalised in the 39th minutes. Noogbo completed his brace with a diving header on the stroke of half time. Darrel Smith equalised in the 69th minute before completing his brace in the 78th minute.

In the first semifinal of the one-day event Absa Premiership rookies Aces displayed their mettle by eliminating defending champions Ajax Cape Town 4-1. Celtic easily overcame Moroka Swallows 2-0 in the second semifinal.

Meanwhile, AmaZulu won the uThukela District Mayoral Cup in Mnambithi yesterday, beating Jomo Cosmos 2-0 in the final through goals from Japhet Zwane and Ntokozo Sikhakhane.
