TAXI bosses in KwaZulu-Natal condemned the murder of a colleague and his two bodyguards on Friday and have called for peace and unity in the industry.
Sbushe Khuzwayo, chairperson of the Folweni Taxi Association, was asleep at home in Mphusheni, near Amanzimtoti, when gunmen forced his bodyguards to knock on the door to let them in. The raiders opened fire when Khuzwayo opened the door, killing him and the bodyguards, Thulani Zulu and Mfanukile Gumede.
The gunmen fled on foot.
Slindile Mhlongo and 10-year-old Sfundo Khuzwayo, who were in the house, were also shot and are in hospital in a critical condition.
Gerald Ferror, president of the KwaZulu-Natal Transport Alliance, yesterday called for peace, tolerance and unity in the industry.
Ferror also challenged the authorities to make swift arrests, claiming they "knew" who was behind the killings.
More than 20 people have been killed in taxi violence that has engulfed parts of the province since last year.
