Life will never be the same again for Monty Mataga of Senakwe village in Bolobedu, Limpopo, after local businesspeople opened their wallets to build a decent house for him and his family.
The Mataga family lived in a filthy, dilapidated makeshift dwelling for more than 20 years after the death of their father.
The SACP and Young Communist League in Bolobedu stepped in and spoke to businesspeople and politicians to contribute building material to build a better shelter for the family of four.
The family was identified during former President Kgalema Motlanthe's door-to-door visit to the area before the elections earlier this year.
Evans Seshoeni of the SACP said the family survives on a child support grant of R480 for one of the children, but the money hardly meets their needs.
Seshoeni said the SACP intervened after realising that Mataga suffered from epilepsy and could not work .
"We have decided to involve government departments to make sure that Mataga receives a social grant and food parcels every month," he said.
Speaking to Sowetan yesterday an excited Mataga said he was touched by the generosity of the businesspeople and the community of Senakwe.
He said he was happy that his family would be able to live in a house that is safe from storms and rains.
