Friendlies for rugby

THE South African Rugby Union has lined up two international friendlies, for the national schools Under-18 squads from August 4 to August 7 in Kimberley.

THE South African Rugby Union has lined up two international friendlies, for the national schools Under-18 squads from August 4 to August 7 in Kimberley.

The youngsters will pit their skills against their experienced counterparts from Italy on August 4 and England three days later. Both matches will be played at GWK Stadium.

Yusaf Jackson, Saru media manager, yesterday said they had organised friendlies for the pupils to afford them exposure and a chance to learn a few tricks from their opponents.

The 22-member squad was selected by the SA Rugby Association at the end of the successful Coca-Cola Under-18 Craven Week that ended two weeks ago in East London.

Said Jackson: "This is a great opportunity for the players because some of them could be drafted into the High Performance Centre programme to take their careers forward.

"I am certain that the players will make the country proud against Italy and England because they have the best performers in their various positions during the Craven Week," said Jackson.

The home team will meet in Kimberley on Sunday, while the visitors are expected next week.
