THE organisers of the F21 Foskor Half Marathon are confident of reaching the target of 1000 athletes for this year's race.
The event takes place at Namakgale in Phalaborwa tomorrow. The main race starts at 2.30pm, while there will also be a relay at 7am and a development race at 11am.
Event coordinator Abbey Ledwaba said it was all systems go.
Defending champion Jeffrey Gwebu from the strong Nedbank outfit is expected to line up as will Gauteng Striders athlete Nkopane Seqhopane, who is experiencing a purple patch at the moment, having finished second to teammate Tsidisio Bosiu in last week's Breakthru 15km.
The Zimbabwean troops will be spearheaded by 2003 Two Oceans half-marathon winner Luwis Masunda and 2007 F21 winner Portipher Dombojena.
Kenyan Wesley Ruto will also line up alongside Uganda's Daniel Kipkorir Chepyegon, who boasts a personal best of 62 minutes, which he ran on a similar course this year in Uganda.
Karen van der Walt, manager of the strong Bashewa team, picks multiple national champion Shadrack Hoff, Kani Simmons, former cross-country champion George Mofokeng and Benedict Moeng for line honours.
T he international athletes should dominate the women's race, with Zimbabwean Tabitha Tsatsa a favourite.
