MORE than 34000 mine workers will down tools at Impala Platinum's operations in Rustenburg today as they observe a day of mourning for nine colleagues who died in a rock fall on Monday, the NUM said in a statement yesterday.

"The day will be observed as part of NUM's resolution that each time miners lose their lives, a full work day will be taken off," the union said.

The day will begin with a memorial service at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium. - Sapa
