Khenyeza now a Brazilian

Volatile former Ajax Cape Town striker Mabhuti Khenyeza has been signed by Mamelodi Sundowns.

Downs chief scout Trott Moloto ended weeks of speculation yesterday and confirmed Khenyeza as a Brazilian.

But Moloto declined to reveal either the length or the financial worth of the contract, except to say the 27-year-old's stay at Chloorkop will be a lengthy one.

It has been rumoured that Sundowns pipped SuperSport United and Orlando Pirates to Khenyeza's signature.

"As you know, Khenyeza is the darling of the fans everywhere. We are ecstatic to have him in our family and are excited," Moloto said. "He is a phenomenal player who scores goals, and as you might be aware, we are also looking for other exceptional players who will complement him."

Other players said to be in Downs's sights are the United duo of Elias Pelembe and Daine Klate.

Khenyeza recently returned from Holland where he did not impress the technical staff of FC Twente, the team that signed Bafana Bafana forward Bernard Parker in an R11million deal.

Moloto was quick to assert that Khenyeza - who left Ajax Cape Town and Kaizer Chiefs in a huff due to his feud with coach Muhsin Ertugral - would not pose any problems in a Downs team that already brims with household names.

"We have different personalities here and we are capable of dealing with them and lending support to our players. I think everyone has opened their arms and welcomed Mabhuti," Moloto said.

Still, Downs have had a hard time handling the dressing room, a problem that saw them finishing a lowly ninth in the Absa Premiership standings last season.
