FOUR days have been set aside for the high-profile corruption trial in which former chief executive Stanley Soko and former Mpumalanga economic empowerment corporation chief executive Ernest Khoza are the accused.

Khoza and Soko are out on R50000 and R20000 bail, respectively They are charged on corruption, contravention of the Public Finance Management Act as well as fraud among themselves.

The charges date back to 2003 when the Mpumalanga government paid R3,6 million to Rainbow Kwanda, which had won a R30 million contract to market the province.

The trial resumed on Tuesday. The court heard there was "nothing wrong" with awarding the contract to a firm called Rainbow Kwanda, according to witness Hussain Verachia.

This was disputed by state witness Sabelo Shabangu, who was a chief director during premier Ndaweni Mahlangu's term of office.

"It was not an instruction but a directive," he said.

Verachia denied issuing a directive to Shabangu and another witness, Jabulani Dlamini .

The matter has been set down for September 7 to 10, where possibility of it being finalised is high.
