DENVER Wannies, coach of the South African women's rugby squad, believes his team has got what it takes to challenge for Nations Cup honours in Canada next month.

The home side has been invited by Rugby Canada to take part in the competition from August 10 to 22.

Other countries that will compete in the yearly event are France, England, the United States and the hosts.

Wannies is confident they will bring home silverware despite making their debut in the international contest.

"We are quite satisfied with the 26-member squad selected because it is a true reflection of the best players in the country," he said.

"We had a successful final three-day camp in Port Elizabeth at the weekend but we need to work on a few things before we leave for Canada on August 7.

"This event is very important because it will afford the players a great opportunity to pit their skills against some of the best women's teams in the world."
