WORKERS in the petroleum sector are set to join striking chemical, paper, wood workers next week.

"We have sent a notice for a solidarity strike with our members for next week," said secretary general Thabane Mdlalose yesterday.

The Chemical, Energy, Paper, Printing, Wood and Allied Workers Union, which also represents petroleum workers, went on strike after employers showed "the highest form of arrogance during wage negotiations".

A full-blown strike was averted in the petroleum industry after employers and the unions decided to go back to the negotiating table.

They failed to reach a deal on salary increases.
