Mpumalanga police are investigating a case of murder against a colleagues from KwaZulu-Natal who allegedly shot and killed a 25-year-old mentally challenged man at the weekend.

The victim, Vusi Thabethe of the farm Politiek, was allegedly shot by members of the Paulpietersburg police station in KwaZulu-Natal on Saturday.

Superintendent Abie Khoabane said the police responded to a call about Thabethe allegedly threatening his siblings with a gun. He allegedly fled the house before the police arrived.

"The three officers spotted him running away and gave chase ," said Khoabane. "The officers shot him and later discovered that he was carrying a toy gun and had four more toy guns in his possession."
